$6.5 Million Settlement in Medical Negligence Action Against Hospital For Failure to Diagnose and Treat Brain Meningitis.
The Plaintiff had a fall which caused blunt trauma to his head, syncope, hearing loss, a series of soft tissue injuries and multiple skull fractures. He presented to the hospital emergency department and was admitted for observation. The Plaintiff alleged his hospital treating physicians were negligent for failing to appreciate and treat signs and symptoms of a developing brain meningitis and prematurely discharging him. After his discharge he subsequently returned with an advanced case of brain meningitis which led to a brain herniation and death. He was survived by a wife and two children. The Hospital denied the treating physicians were negligent or that any treatment by them was the legal cause of his death. The case settled prior to trial for $6.5 million dollars.
