$4.0 Million Settlement in Medical Malpractice Action Against Physicians and Hospital For Failing To Timely Diagnose Spinal Epidural Abscess
The Plaintiff was a 67 year old adult male who presented to the hospital emergency department with signs and symptoms of a spinal epidural abscess. He was admitted to the hospital with progressing neurological deficits but without proper medical intervention. Ultimately his condition worsened to the point that he could not feel his legs. This led to the ordering of an MRI and the detection and diagnosis of a spinal epidural abscess. Unfortunately, due to the delay in diagnosis the surgical and medicinal treatments typically available to the treat his condition were no longer viable. As a result, he was left partially permanently paralyzed from the waste down. The case settled shortly before trial for $4.0 million.
